I have been living in Sweden for over a week now!
(Wohoo!)
After the struggles of the first few days with my phone connection and the anxiety of actually being here, I have settled here. We have yet not unpacked our stuff nor have we been spending other than nights at home. I have come to an understanding that the resort is our home now.
We changed my phone connection the same day me and my family came here to move me in, to get included mobile data also in Sweden. The new connection was supposed to start during the night and it did, but took also a wrong turn somewhere and never gave me internet at all. As a phone addict and already scared of all the new things coming my way in Sweden, the lack of internet freaked me out.
After driving 260 kilometres to the shop and back and still having no internet connection what so ever, I was ready to throw in the towel.
Numerous phone calls later I was advised to change my SIM-card to correct this issue. My first thought was “OK, I can easily do that”, until I realised that the closest shop was 130 kilometres away. Talk about living in the middle of nowhere… And all the comfort I got from people was “Welcome to Lapland”. After driving 260 kilometres to the shop and back and still having no internet connection what so ever, I was ready to throw in the towel. Luckily we got the connection working the same evening, so life started feeling more manageable again.
List of other struggles:
- Cold house due to electric heating and wanting to save money on that
- Electric shutdown on New Year’s Eve
- Driving in snowfall
- Driving uphill in new snow
- Not knowing what your post mailbox is
- Working with Swedish people (just kidding, I like them)
- Having photoshoots in powder (and this all because of a Finnish person)
