Mother’s Day without Mama: Grilling in Heat

It has been too long since I have last seen my family.

mamaIMG_7287.jpgIt was two months ago when I saw my mother, and that was just for a day. For a lunch, actually. The last time I hang out with my mother more, was before new year’s.

It is on a Sunday like this, when everyone seemed to be spending time with their mothers and family, that I really start missing mine. So yesterday it was only me, my boyfriend and our dog (though we feel like Remu is our baby, I don’t feel like a mother per say).

Whenever I miss my parents, I start planning my days as I was with them.

Whenever I miss my parents, I start planning my days as I was with them. So yesterday, as we woke up and had the morning coffee in the sun, we decided to go hiking. Just a quick morning hike to the woods, about 20 kilometres away from our place.

Grill the asparagus in folio etc. so the cheese doesn’t melt into the grill

After the hike we headed back home to make a mother’s day lunch: pork, zucchini, asparagus wrapped with bacon and blue cheese. As long as we kept moving, I did not have the time to miss my mom, but after spending hours outside and even our puppy started feeling tired and didn’t want to walk with us any more, it was time to stop. I really wished I’d been home.

Add the extra blue cheese on your steak for extra flavour

Ingredients for super simple bbq:
  • Pork steak (marinated before)
  • Sliced zucchini
  • Halloumi
  • Asparagus wrapped in bacon and blue cheese (Aura in Finland)
  • Red wine of your taste

Cheers,
Saara
